Halle’s Story

Halle Fletcher is a radiant 8-year-old whose laughter and love for life light up every room. She adores animals, believes in unicorns, and treasures every adventure with her family—especially time spent playing with her big sister, Jasmine. But in December 2018, Halle’s world changed forever. What began as issues with her eyesight led to a devastating diagnosis at Liverpool’s Alder Hey hospital: DIPG, a rare and inoperable brain tumour that cruelly robs children of the ability to walk, talk, see, and even breathe. There is no cure.

For Halle’s parents, Katie and Steven, the news shattered their world.

Their energetic little girl, once running and playing without a care, now faces daily struggles just to move and speak. In February, Halle’s fight nearly ended when she was rushed to intensive care, her family and doctors unsure whether she would survive. Against all odds, she did. After gruelling weeks of radiotherapy—the only treatment to ease her symptoms—Halle’s resilience has astounded everyone. Through pain and uncertainty, she still finds reasons to giggle, to hope, and to smile.

For her family, the heartbreak is unimaginable. Watching Halle face each day with courage and joy, despite her suffering, is both inspiring and utterly heart-wrenching. Katie and Steven’s love and strength never waver, even as they hold on to hope for a miracle. Their only wish is to see their little girl happy, healthy, and free to chase her dreams again.

Recently, Halle lost the ability to walk and now relies on a wheelchair. Yet, with her unbreakable spirit, she has managed to take a few steps again. Halle is a fighter, and she has a list of dreams she hopes to fulfil while she still can.

By supporting our charity, you become part of a community fighting for miracles every day—funding critical research, supporting families in crisis, and bringing comfort where it’s needed most. Please join us and help us change the future for children with cancer.

DIPG brain tumours are currently an incurable and devastating cancer.

DIPG robs a child of their hearing, sight, movement, the ability to swallow and eventually their breathing.

It’s only with your help that research into this devastating cancer is possible.

Joss Searchlight are funding vital research into the most life-threatening brain tumours. Please be part of our journey.

FAMILY SUPPORT

Along with providing financial grants to help families struggling with the expenses of having a child with cancer we also provide life changing support.

Support Workers who advise, visit and support families with compassion are an essential part of Joss Searchlight.

Family support is in our DNA, as the founding trustees know what an important part compassionate support played in helping them during their son’s illness and after his sad death.

We can’t fund research and we can’t support families without you.

FINDING A CURE

At Joss Searchlight we totally depend on donations. Donations enable us to fund vital brain tumour research, to find a cure for some of the rarest brain tumours, to campaign for better treatments and support families on their cancer journey when they need it most.

Research organisations need funding stability, they need to know that they have enough money coming in every month to allow them to do their incredibly important work. We need to pledge a certain amount of funding every year to make sure they’re able to do everything they can to find cures and treatment programmes for some of the hardest-to-treat brain tumours.
